Car Haulers in Fort Worth
The question is not open versus enclosed in the abstract. It is what state the vehicle is in and what state you need it to arrive in.
The car is a project
Open deck, 18 or 20 feet, slide-out or stand-up ramps, treated deck, tandem braked. Cheaper to buy, hundreds of pounds lighter to tow, and it stores outside. For a non-runner coming home from an auction this is simply the right answer.
The car is finished
Enclosed, 20 to 24 feet, with a heavy rear ramp, an escape door and floor-level tie-downs. Weather off it, attention off it, and you can leave it loaded overnight. In Texas the sun is doing as much damage as anything else, which is worth factoring in.
The car is one of several
Then deck length rather than weight is what limits you, and you are looking at the longest enclosed haulers or a flatbed equipment deck. Worth a conversation before you shop, because the truck requirement changes with the length.
Specify at order
Interior height enough to open a car door inside on an enclosed hauler. Extra tie-down points where you actually strap the vehicle. A winch plate if anything is loading that does not run. All cheaper built in. See the car hauler range.
Measure the vehicle, not the model year
Trims vary more than people expect. Measure bumper to bumper and add strapping room at both ends. Eighteen feet suits most cars, twenty covers a full-size pickup or long-wheelbase vehicle, and twenty-four takes a vehicle plus a toolbox or two small vehicles.
Ramp length matters if the car is low
A lowered car or one with a front splitter will catch on a short ramp no matter how carefully you approach it. Ask about ramp length and approach angle before ordering rather than discovering it on the first load.
Strap over the tires
Floor-level D-rings positioned for the wheels, strapping over the tires rather than to suspension components, is what keeps a vehicle stable at highway speed. Ask for the anchors to be set for how you actually strap, and specify more of them than the standard layout provides.
Sun, and the case for enclosed
In this climate ultraviolet does real damage to paint, trim and interiors, and an enclosed hauler is a maintenance decision rather than a cosmetic one for anything you have spent money on. Add an escape door, interior height enough to open a car door inside, interior lighting, and a winch plate if the car does not run.
Towing it
Tandem axles with brakes on both. A vehicle is a high, heavy, top-loaded weight, so aim for roughly sixty percent of it ahead of the axles and strap before you move. Bring the truck when you collect and we will set the controller against the trailer rather than leaving it on a default.
Loading alone
Chock the trailer before you drive on rather than after. Line the car up outside the trailer instead of correcting halfway up a ramp. If the car is low, load downhill where possible, because a slight decline improves the approach angle more than a longer ramp does.
Storage and access
Twenty-four feet of enclosed hauler is a substantial object to keep somewhere. Measure your gate, your drive and your turning space before ordering - it is the most common regret in this category, well ahead of anything to do with the trailer itself.
Open or enclosed, in one sentence
Finished car, buy enclosed; project car, buy open. Nearly every regret in this category is that decision made backwards, and in this climate the sun tips it toward enclosed sooner than it would elsewhere.
Ratings and the truck
A loaded car hauler sits near the top of what a half-ton manages comfortably. Bring the truck and we will confirm the rating and set the controller against the trailer.
